Christian Services Twenty-first century pilgrims can
join in a living history religious celebration at Alley Park, south
of Lancaster, Ohio. Christianity appeared in what was to become Fairfield
County in 1799 with the forming of a Methodist Society under the leadership of
Edward Teel, who had previously been a class-leader in Baltimore County,
Maryland. |

The meeting place was in the Teel cabin on Zanes Trace,
three miles east of the present City of Lancaster, Ohio. Five families; the
Teels, the Jesse Spurgeons, the lshmael Dews, the Nimrod Brights and the Elijah
Spurgeons, formed the group.
They were visited by circuit riding
Methodist preachers, James Quinn, Jesse Stoneman and Joseph Chenowith, from the
Muskingum and Hocking Districts. The public is invited to join with the
Frontier Players Association in a non-denominational Christian service.
This celebration will be enacted as in 1799 during their living
History weekend on Sunday, 9 a.m. at Lancaster Parks and
Recreations Alley Park, 1.4 mile South of Lancaster, Ohio on Old Logan
Road, off US Route 33.
Everyone is encouraged to bring their own lawn
chair seating.
Costumed cast members from the Drama Frontier
Spirit 1799 will join the public and relive a religious service of two
hundred years ago.
The congregation will be inspired to join in singing
with music of the Period, which is still popular today.
During the
service, of approximately one hour, a free - will offering will be taken and
donated to local charities. |
